GAYLORD — Newsboys, who performed in the inaugural 2006 event, will return to Gaylord June 22 with the Big Ticket Festival.
“I love Michigan, especially in the summer,” said keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein, 33, who grew up in Sterling Heights. Frankenstein has been with the band 14 years, including its 2002 visit to Gaylord as part of Festival Con Dios.
The band spent the spring touring its most recent album, “GO,” released on a new record label started by their manager and lead singer.
“(‘GO’) has been doing quite well. It’s more of a pop record for us,” said Frankenstein.
After the Gaylord performance, Newsboys will perform a concert in Ohio before taking a couple weeks off.
“The whole thing is not to take a day for granted,” said Frankenstein, noting the band recently helped with flood relief efforts in Mexico as founders of a new Global Tribe organization. In the last three years, Newsboys have traveled to 33 different countries, shifting some of their focus to international aid work.
“You see a lot of need when you go to these places,” said Frankenstein. “Underneath it all, the Gospel message is ‘What you do for the least of these you do for the Lord.’”
