Master Gardeners offering garden design workshop

GAYLORD — The MSU-Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program has partnered with Lynn LaPointe Wiese, a registered landscape architect, to offer an innovative garden design workshop series in Gaylord and Petoskey.

Registratiton is under way now, for the five sessions, which begin on Sept. 8.

Anyone who has an interest in garden design may benefit from the workshops, according to organizers. No prior plant or design knowledge is required.

Among the daylong “immersion” courses:

• Intro to Garden Design*, Sept. 8, University Center at Gaylord;

• Intro to Garden Design*, Sept. 15, Emmet County Community Building, Petoskey;

   (*required prerequisite for Advanced Garden Design I and II)

• Advanced Garden Design I, Oct. 6, University Center at Gaylord;

• Advanced Garden Design II, Oct. 13, University Center at Gaylord;

• Garden Design Graphics, Nov. 3, Emmet County Community Building in Petoskey;

• Construction and Calculations, Nov. 17, Emmet County Community Building, Petoskey

Participants receive a manual which contains all the lecture material and overhead graphics. Each workshop consists of lecture and hands-on exercises. 

Organizers suggest everyone from landscape industry students, landscape professionals, gardeners, Master Gardeners and homeowners could benefit from the program.

Cost is $99 per workshop, plus materials fees; or $17 for active Master Gardener volunteers, plus materials fees.
