HT to begin charging for online e-edition October 1
Wednesday, September 26, 2007 2:06 AM EDT

GAYLORD —  Starting Oct. 1, the Gaylord Herald Times will begin taking subscriptions and charging users of its online e-edition. The charges will affect the digital version of the print product only, not the main content of the gaylordheraldtimes.com.

“The e-edition gives subscribers across the country immediate access to our most recent print edition,” said online media manager Peter Comings. “We’ve had great viewership in the months that it’s been online and available for free. Every new issue is saved in an archive database and the content of each page is searchable by keyword.”

The cost to new subscribers — who, in the local delivery area, will be able to choose between online only and print-online combos — will be $24 for three months, $33 for six months and $53 for one year.

Current print subscribers will continue to receive access to the e-edition as part of their regular subscription. People outside of the local delivery area will be able to subscribe to the e-edition exclusively for the same rates.

“We believe one of the biggest groups of people to benefit from having access to the e-edition will be the snowbirds,” Comings continued. “Technology occasionally presents its own issues, but slow mail delivery is not one of them.”
