Snowmobile patrols guaranteed by $59,000 DNR grant

ALBERT TWP. — Montmorency County Undersheriff Patti Skarbek informed the Albert Township Board last week the sheriff’s department has received nearly $59,000 in grants from Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to purchase two new snowmobiles and to fund the manpower to operate them.

Skarbek also reported that while the department didn’t lose deputies during recent county budget reductions, cuts did come in capital outlay for equipment. She explained, however, that because of the grants, the department is able to purchase equipment such as boats, snowmobiles and ORVs.

“We’re applying for everything out there,” said Skarbek. “We’ve been very successful.”
