Tuesday, December 25, 2007 12:06 AM EST

GAYLORD — The Herald Times’ annual “First Baby of the Year Contest” is on the books again. Parents who are expecting very near the beginning of 2008 may be eligible to win a stack of prizes.

The winner receives haircuts for mom, fitness memberships, gift cards, several free dinners, a massage, flowers, a one-year subscription to the Herald Times, and much more. (Watch Saturday’s paper for an ad heralding all of the prizes.)

To be eligible, the baby must be born in Gaylord, Grayling or the Petoskey hospitals. The attending physician must certify the time of birth and the parents must be residents of Otsego, Montmorency or Crawford counties.

The first baby of 2007 was 8-pound, 6-ounce Chase Anthony Defauw, son of Anthony and Michelle Defauw of Gaylord. Chase was born Jan. 3, 2007 at 6:37 p.m. at Otsego Memorial Hospital.
