James Olli, Michaywé Pines Golf Course superintendent, has earned the renewal of his designation of Certified Golf Course Superintendent by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
Renewal of this certification process requires a minimum of 100 hours of continuing education and professional development over a five-year period. This marks the completion of Olli’s fourth renewal.
“The Michaywé Pines Golf Course is fortunate to have one of approximately 1,800 Certified Golf Course Superintendent,” said Stephen F. Mona, chief executive officer of GCSAA. “By maintaining his certified status, Mr. Olli continues to demonstrate his desire for personal advancement while providing your golf facility with the best playing conditions possible. This is a significant achievement in Mr. Olli’s professional career and truly signifies professional excellence.”
AIC North granted continuing accreditation
The Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP) has granted continuing accreditation to Ambulatory Infusion Care North (AIC North) of Gaylord.
AIC North is a locally owned an operated home infusion pharmacy that provides infusion products and serves patients throughout the Lower and Upper Peninsulas of Michigan.
Infusion therapy involves the administration of medications using intravenous, subcutaneous and other routes. Drug therapies commonly administered through infusion include antibiotics, chemotherapy, pain management, parenteral nutrition and many others. Diagnosis and conditions commonly requiring infusion therapy include infections, cancer, pain, gastrointestinal diseases or disorders, congestive heart failure, immune disorders, growth hormone deficiencies and more.
The purpose of CHAP accreditation is to validate the excellence of community health care practice through consistent measurement of quality services, It motivates health care providers to achieve continuous improvement by adhering to standards of excellence. It also assists the public in selecting community health services and providers with demonstrated excellence.
Owner Tom Tomaski is pleased with the achievement and credits the hard work of his staff and the support of the home health agencies for reaching the goal.

AIC North has been in business since 1989 and is located at 854 N. Center Ave. The pharmacy has had ongoing accreditation since 1993.

New members: 5 join Rotary Club of Grayling• The Rotary Club of Grayling recently welcomed five new members to the organization.
They are Jason Alexander, deputy, Crawford County Sheriff’s Department; Misty Ankney, manager of Days Inn – Grayling; Charlie Bertram, owner of Northern Lawn and Home Care, Grayling; Robbyn Cudney, manager of Three Lakes Abstract and Title, Grayling; and Mark Davey, DDS, Grayling.
These new members will join 50 other club members in supporting a variety of community and international efforts. Fundraising events include annual Raffle Calendar sales, Minstrel Show, annual Garage Sale, Avita Water Black Bear Bicycle Tour, annual Golf Outing, and Chicken Dinner.
Rotary Club of Grayling provides a scholarship for a graduating senior each year, hosts a Youth Exchange Student, and supports the Clean Water Project in the Dominican Republic.

Seminar: Dairy conference to touch on many topicsDairy producers will have a chance to learn from experts specializing in reproduction, labor relations, nutrition, business management and environmental stewardship at the Great Lakes Regional Dairy Conference (GLRDC) Feb. 7-9 at the Bavarian Inn Lodge and Conference Center in Frankenmuth.
Because of the high marks received for producer panels collected from attendee surveys at past conferences, this year a producer panel presentation will follow both the reproduction and labor management sessions. Sitting on the reproduction panel will be Aubrey Lettinga, Walnutdale Farm, Wayland; Brad Ritter, Ritter Farms, Byron; and Sean Tollenaar, Tollcrest Holsteins, Wheatland, Calif. The labor management panel will feature Steve Cary, Cary Dairy, Battle Creek; Steve Hook, Hook’s Dairy, Breckenridge; and Arno Schot, New Flevo Dairy, Clayton.
Paul Fricke, assistant professor and Extension specialist in dairy cattle reproduction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and one of the world’s foremost authorities in dairy cattle reproduction, will lead the reproduction session and moderate the reproduction panel during the Feb. 7 afternoon session. His talk, “Getting the Problem Breeders Pregnant,” will be presented again that evening as a special repeat session geared at herdspeople and other industry members unable to attend the conference during the day.
Fricke will join other well-known speakers including MSU Department of Animal Science professor Mike Allen; Mike Hutjens, nutrition researcher from the University of Illinois; Normand St. Pierre, professor and Extension dairy specialist from The Ohio State University; and animal agriculture evangelist and radio personality Trent Loos. Orion Samuelson, the man behind the baritone voice of American agriculture, will be the featured keynote speaker.
LuAnn Troxel, a dairy producer from LaPorte, Ind., will report on the work of the newly formed grass-roots organization AFACT (American Farmers for the Advancement and Conservation of Technology) in her “Hot Topics” session, “More than rbST: Who Controls the Future of Agriculture? What’s on the Horizon and Where Do We Go from Here?” on Feb. 8.
The conference, now in its sixth year, is organized by a group made up of Michigan dairy producers, dairy industry representatives and members of the MSU Extension Dairy Team, and sponsored in part by state, regional and national dairy businesses and organizations.
Fees to attend the conference range from a single-day rate of $140 ($75 for students) and a full-conference rate of $250 ($180 for students). Farm rates (maximum of five people per farm) are also available. The registration deadline is Feb. 6.
