GAYLORD — It has been quite a season for the Otsego County Hockey Association PeeWee B team.
The squad, featuring mostly 12 year-olds, has advanced to the state playoffs, which will take place Mar. 7 in Hudsonville. To advance this far, they sprang an exciting overtime victory against Cheboygan earlier this month, capping off an undefeated regional compeitition.
The squad, coached by Mark Long took first place at tournaments in Holland and Bay City this season.
“It has been awesome,” Long said. “This is a great group of kids who love to come to practice and work every night.”
In that final game against Cheboygan, Gaylord finally topped a team it hadn’t beaten all season long.
Long, who has coached hockey for 15 years, said this team has advanced further than all others he’s coached.
“This is one of the hardest-working groups I’ve ever coached,” he said.
Team members are Peter Lawton, Sam Black, Anthony Tomaski, Benjamin Broz, Trevor Adams, Seth Muzyl, Garrett Richardson, Skye Pieffer, Brandon Campbell, Blake Miller, Christopher Wallace, Mitchell Lawton, Drake Olson, Samantha Stefani, Harrison Quaal and Anthony Apa.
Assistant coaches include Regan Quaal, Jeff Lawton, Charlie Black, Stan Wallace and Bill Muzyl.
