First responders used the Jaws of Life to rescue the two female occupants of this Chevrolet Cavalier after they collided with a second vehicle Monday afternoon in front of Riegle’s West Side Market on M-32. Both women were transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. (HT - Michael Jones)

Snowmobile driver injured on trail


• Donald Brown, 46, Lockobourne, Ohio, was driving a 1995 Arctic Cat snowmobile on a trail in Chester Township, Feb. 21, around 1:30 p.m. when he reportedly struck a chunk of ice, flipping the handle bars too quickly to control.

Reports indicate Brown broke his wrist and sought his own treatment at Otsego Memorial Hospital and was treated and released.

I-75 driver cited in crash

• Samuel Otter, 24, Rudyard, was northbound on I-75, one-quarter mile north of Parmater Road in Livingston Township, Friday, around 4 p.m. when he reportedly lost control of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu he was driving.

Otter’s vehicle reportedly sustained extensive damage when he drove off the west side of the roadway and rolled over.

Otter reportedly was not injured and he was cited for hazardous driving — violation of basic speed laws, too fast.

Drivers issued citations in crash

• Timothy Cattell, 21, Marquette, was southbound on I-75, one-quarter mile south of Old State Road in Otsego Lake Township, Friday, around 6 p.m.. when he reportedly lost control of the 1998 Chevrolet pickup he was driving and struck a guardrail.

A second southbound vehicle, a 1995 Buick, driven by Judy Reddell, 23, Cheboygan, reportedly lost control and crashed into Cattell, causing moderate damage to both vehicles.

There were no reported injuries and both drivers were cited for hazardous driving — violation of basic speed laws, too fast.

Citation issued in crash

• Daniel Moore, 54, Vanderbilt, was northbound on Old 27 just south of I-75 in Corwith Township, Saturday, around 2:25 a.m. when he reportedly lost control of the 2005 GMC Envoy he was driving and crashed into a snowbank on the west side of the roadway.

Moore was not injured and his vehicle reportedly sustained moderate damage. He was cited for hazardous driving — violation of basic speed laws, too fast.

Rollover crash on I-75

• Hattie Ohlert, 18, Indian River, was southbound on I-75, one-mile north of Parmater Road in Livingston Township, Saturday, around 8:10 a.m. when she reportedly lost control of the 1995 Ford pickup she was driving.

Ohlert’s vehicle reportedly drove off the east side of the road and rolled over, sustaining moderate damage.

Neither Ohlert nor her passenger, Jerry Reid, 17, White Cloud, were reportedly injured. Ohlert was cited for hazardous driving — violation of basic speed laws, too fast.

Passengers injured in crash

• Jesse Pepper, 22, Stockbridge, was northbound on I-75, one mile north of Old State Road in Otsego Lake Township, Saturday, around 10:10 a.m. when he reportedly lost control of the 1990 Ford pickup he was driving.

Pepper’s vehicle reportedly sustained extensive damage when it left the east side of the roadway and rolled over. Pepper reportedly was not injured.

Pepper’s passenger, Heather Hunter, 20, East Lansing, was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital by the Otsego County EMS/Rescue and treated and released. A second passenger, Zackery Bradley, 22, East Lansing, was treated at the scene for injuries.

There were no citations issued.

Snowmobile driver hits tree

• Stephen Russ, 42, Canton, was driving a 2006 Ski Doo snowmobile on a trail in Albert Township, Saturday, around 5 p.m. when he reportedly lost control on an icy corner of the trail.

Russ’ snowmobile reportedly sustained extensive damage when he left the trail and struck a tree.

Russ reportedly sought his own treatment at Otsego Memorial Hospital and was treated and released.

Snowmobile driver seeks treatment for injury

• Cory Cole, 18, Gaylord, was standing up while driving an Arctic Cat snowmobile on private property on Ashley Road in Corwith Township, Sunday, around 4 p.m. when he reportedly was struck in the face when he drove under a clothesline.

The impact reportedly knocked Cole off his snowmobile and he sought his own treatment for injuries at Otsego Memorial Hospital and was treated and released.

Citation issued in rear-end crash


• Jerry Wilson, 67, Lapeer, was driving a 2008 Dodge southbound on Elkview south of Grandview Boulevard, Saturday, around 1:20 p.m. when he reportedly stopped in the roadway while looking for a street address. The rear end of Wilson’s vehicle was reportedly then struck by the front end of a 1999 GMC pickup driven by Cecil Day, 67, Gaylord.

There were no reported injuries and moderate damage was reported to Wilson’s vehicle.

Minor damage was reported to Day’s vehicle and he was cited for hazardous driving — violation of basic speed laws, unable to stop.

Minor damage in rear-end crash

• Sarah Kitchen, 31, Elmira, was eastbound on West Main Street just east of Meecher Road, Thursday, around 7:50 a.m. when the rear end of the 2005 GMC she was driving was reportedly struck by the front end of a 2002 Toyota driven by John Jones, 63, Gaylord.

There were no reported injuries and both vehicles sustained minor damage. There were no citations issued.

Driver injured in 2-vehicle crash

• Derek Tomanek, 18, Gaylord, was southbound on Dickerson Road south of Mankowski Road, Saturday, around 2:25 p.m. when a 1995 Ford pickup driven by Annelisa Chipman, 17, East Jordan, reportedly turned into the path of the 1997 Nissan Tomanek was driving.

According to reports, Chipman was attempting to make a left turn onto Dickerson Road from a private drive and failed to yield the right of way to Tomanek’s vehicle.

Extensive damage was reported to Tomanek’s vehicle and he reportedly was not injured.

Minor damage was reported to Chipman’s vehicle and she was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital by the Otsego County EMS/Rescue and treated and released.

2-vehicle crash on South Otsego Avenue

• Cecil Puckett, 65, Mancelona, was southbound on South Otsego Avenue at West Fourth Street, Feb. 25, around 2 p.m. when a 1997 International wrecker driven by Nathan Sweet, 31, Gaylord, reportedly attempted to make a left turn in front of the 1997 Ford pickup Puckett was driving.

Sweet, who was northbound on South Otsego Avenue, reportedly did not yield to Puckett when he attempted to turn left onto westbound West Fourth Street.

Neither driver was reportedly injured and extensive damage was reported to Puckett’s vehicle. Minor damage was reported to Sweet’s vehicle.
