GAYLORD — For the second-straight season, St. Mary’s Alvin Sitkiewicz received an Honorable Mention pick on the Associated Press’ Class D all-state team.
Sitkiewicz closed out a prolific career with the Snowbirds, hitting for 983 career points. That ranks him No. 15 on the school’s decorated all-time list.
The 6-foot-3 forward averaged 17.5 points and 8.9 rebounds for St. Mary, who won its second-consecutive district title.
“It’s quite an honor,” Sitkiewicz said. “It’s about a lot more than just scoring and it’s nice to be recognized.”
Sitkiewicz, who is considering playing basketball at Alma College next season, said he thrived on being the Snowbirds’ go-to player.
“I was motivated before each game thinking that the team we were playing was practicing how to defend me the day before,” he said. “I enjoy being watched.”
Sitkiewicz joined a number of area players on the Honorable Mention list.
That group included Ridge Hahn of Pellston, Zach Light of Central Lake, Brad Guy of Bellaire, Logan Paquet of Mackinaw City, Jared Danbert of Ellsworth, Jordan Hincka and Nick LaTulip of Posen and Davis Zeps of Mio.
