OTSEGO COUNTY — Students don’t have to head south for spring break, there’s plenty to do right here in Otsego County.

For the fourth year, MSU-Extension (MSU-E) and area businesses have put together a spring break schedule of free or low-cost events for Gaylord area spring breakers.

According to Bethany Prykucki, extension educator, response to the offerings has been very good.

While all Otsego County students will soon receive the schedule from school, here’s a sneak peak at events to do during the March 31-April 6 break:

• Call of the Wild, free admission, Monday-Sunday;

• Gaylord Cinema, $3 movie; small pop and popcorn for $2, all week 2 and 4 p.m.;

• MSU-E Demonstration Kitchen, “Cooking with Dianne,” for ages 5-8, Wednesday, April 2; ages 9-13, Thursday, April 3, 10 a.m.-noon, register at 731-0272;

• Otsego County Library, stamping and scrapbooking, grades 4-6, Wednesday, April 2; grades 7-12, Thursday, April 3, 11-noon and 1-2 p.m.; register at 732-5841; and

• many more.

Expedition Gaylord, a map project launched by the Guardian Gals, is chocked full of family fun and area discounts. Ideas include visiting the Reese Animal Shelter, Gaylord Elk Viewing Park, Rails-To-Trails Path and more.

Maps are available at many local businesses, by calling 732-3826 or by e-mail at guardian

gals@gmail.com. Cost for the map is $30. Nonprofits can sell the maps and keep $10. The other $20 goes to to cover the cost of the maps.
