LEWISTON — Lewiston School students walked the red carpet as they arrived at the Lewiston Library Tuesday to celebrate the end of the year Montmorency County Library book club celebration, Hollywood style.

With the theme “Read It Before You See It,” the 35 Lewiston branch book club members read only books that have been made into movies. They’ve been meeting monthly since October.

According to Lori Weaver, Montmorency County Library director, “The Cat In The Hat,” “Shrek,” the Harry Potter series and “Hoot” were among some of the titles the students, grades first through eighth, read throughout the year.

Each student received an Oscar-type award during the opening ceremony of the “That’s a Wrap” party. Following the ceremony, students visited various stations: a table setup to make autograph books; a “champagne” (white sparkling grape juice) table; a food table laden with shrimp, cheese and crackers desserts; and a chocolate fountain with all of the dipping favorites.

Students used the play money they earned all year to purchase tickets for two grand prizes. Mikey Pohoda won a stuffed Shrek and Destiny Sherbonda won a movie night bucket.

According to Weaver, the book club theme changes annually. Next year’s theme will be “Survivor.”

In addition to the Lewiston branch, Atlanta Library had 15 students participate in this year’s book club and 30 students signed up from Hillman.
