GAYLORD - Drivers in northern Michigan can now subscribe on the Herald Times Web site to receive road construction updates beginning this spring. The updates, generated by the Michigan Dept. of Transportation (MDOT) will be disseminated by Bob Felt, MDOT communication specialist responsible for handling media and community relations for a 24-county area in northern lower Michigan known as MDOT's North Region.

The North Region serves the following 24 counties: Alcona, Alpena, Antrim,Benzie, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Iosco,

Kalkaska, Lake, Leelanau, Manistee, Mason, Missaukee, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Osceola, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, Roscommon, and Wexford.

"We've had great interest from people wanting weather reports, sports scores and school closing information," said Peter Comings, online media manager. "Offering information on road construction projects to the benefit of residents and tourists seemed a natural extension of that service. To have the Michigan Dept. of Transportation offer up their help in getting the word out, makes it all the better."

There is no cost to subscribe to the service which offers both text message and e-mail options.
