Friday, April 18, 2008 11:08 PM EDT

PETOSKEY — Jeff Dowd, the real-life inspiration for the Jeff Bridges “The Dude” in the Coen Brothers film “The Big Lebowski,” will appear at North Central Michigan College for a Lecture Series presentation on Tuesday, April 22.

The 7:30 p.m. program in the Student and Community Resource Center is free.

Although largely unknown to the general public, Dowd helped the Coen Brothers sell their first film, “Blood Simple,” and played an important role in the success of “The Blair Witch Project.” Dowd was a co-founder of Sundance and worked such films as “Gandhi,” “Chariots of Fire,” and “The Black Stallion.”

During his presentation, Dowd will tell stories about his personal experiences and discuss his upcoming book, “The Dude Abides! Classic Tales and Rebel Rants.” He also will host a party at Northern Lights Recreation after his talk.

More information and background on Jeff Dowd can be found at www.jeffdowd.com.
