To the Editor:
On April 9, the Michigan Works Job Fair was held at The Eagles Club on Wisconsin Avenue. The event was a complete success. There were 24 potential employers were on hand, bringing in a total of 509 job seekers. It gave those seeking employment a chance that wouldn’t normally be afforded them. They were able to fill out applications and meet potential employers on the spot. Many walked away with offers of employment that same day.
Of those who walked away with a job in hand that day, five were Friendship Shelter residents. In one day, 20 percent of our clients became gainfully employed.
It was a joyous occasion for them and for our organization as a whole. They not only became employed but will have housing provided for them on Mackinac Island for the entire summer as part of their employment package. Two huge barriers for homeless individuals eliminated in one day thanks to the Michigan Works! Job Fair.
Michigan Works! does an amazing amount of work with our clients day in and day out. We would just like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff of Michigan Works! for all that they do for our clients. Also, to congratulate them on a job well done!
