GAYLORD — More than 1,000 adults and children gathered for the Family Fun Fair Saturday.
Designed for parents and their young children to experience fun activities together, it united organizations and group and celebrated Month of the Young Child. Hosted by an extension of the “Ready to Succeed” Committee, the eighth annual event took families “Around the World,” keeping with the theme.
Families entered through an airline terminal entry and took their “passports” booth to booth. Activities included African Lion faces, digging for Egyptian artifacts, puppets from India, Egyptian papyrus with hieroglyphics, a “World of Imagination” activity, “World needs scientists,” fortune cookies from China, songs with a Middle Eastern link from the “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” production, and Hawaiian and Celtic dance presentations by Dance Steps.
More than 40 groups and organizations with 160 adults and teen volunteers provided activities.
Among those enjoying the day were 391 adults and 539 children. While most were from Gaylord, they also came from Vanderbilt, Johannesburg, Grayling, and Elmira as well as visitors from Manistique, Saginaw, L’Anse, Saginaw and Lansing.
The Michigan Child Identification Program hosted by Otsego Child Welfare Alliance and the Masons processed identification packets for 167 children.
