Getting to know Gaylord
I’ve recently come on board to the Gaylord Herald Times to fill the position of summer intern.
Images of Citizen Kane, William Randolph Hearst , Clark Kent and Earnest Hemingway working for their respective papers (fictional or non) are filling my head. Will this new job come with a fedora? Will I get to break an important story unveiling political corruption? Will I gain superpowers somehow during the summer?
I’ll just have to wait and see. For now I’ll fill the traditional duties that interns face such as the emergency coffee run, the “do it now or else!” copying and collating stint, and the “can you keep up with Chris Engle?” Chinese food fire-drill challenge.
As for getting to know Gaylord, my brief knowledge from growing up in Petoskey will need some expanding. I’ve already completed a “Word on the Street” piece where I’ve determined citizens of Gaylord are more than willing to help until I pull out a camera. I wrote some scholarship and academic briefs where I’ve decided that without Lake Michigan so close, Gaylord students focus more on school than students in Petoskey (We can still beat you at football though... right?).
