Myrtle B. Hardy, age 88, of Gaylord, died June 18, 2008 at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village.

She was born on July 9, 1919 in Holly. She married the love of her life and best friend, Lloyd J. Hardy, on Dec. 31, 1935. They were married for approximately 71 years and had eight children.

Myrtle was an excellent homemaker and mother and enjoyed her vegetable garden, canning, making homemade breads, buns and delicious cinnamon rolls for the family. She also made her own patterns for her children’s clothes, crocheted doilies, tablecloths, bedspreads and baby sweater sets.

Myrtle and Lloyd moved to Alden after Lloyd’s retirement from General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford. In 1979, they moved to Gaylord. Myrtle had a large collection of dolls that she and Lloyd would search out at garage sales, and she loved designing and making doll clothes for all of them.

Myrtle is survived by her children, Ethel J. (Percy) Duncan of Milford, Patricia K. (Don) Sullivan of Alden, Sharon L. (Larry) Chapel of Gaylord, Ray E. (Judy) of N.C., Don J. (Sharon) of Howell, Ron J. (Joan) of Iron River and Larry L. (Jean) of Morrenci; son-in-law, Gerald Krajenke of Traverse City; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; half-brothers, Paul Naugle of Caro and Everett Naugle of Texas; and a half-sister, Betty Pace of Whitelake.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, in 2006; her daughter, Shirley A. Krajenke; brother, Clyde Smith; sisters, Ruth Morrow, Naomia Clark; and half-sister, Maude Fernald.

Funeral services will be held today (Saturday), June 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord with the Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord was held on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and continues today beginning at 10 a.m.
