Gaylord Youth Orchestra program encourages 8- to 10-year-olds to learn string instrument.
GAYLORD — The Gaylord Youth Orchestra will sponsor a summer string camp for any students ages 8 to 12 interested in learning to play a violin, viola or cello. No musical experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn.
The workshop will take place July 28 to Aug. 1, 9 a.m.-noon, at the Gaylord Family Fellowship Church, 848 Schreur St. in Gaylord. The instructors will be Joanna Bozin and Jim VanEizenga, both music education majors at Western Michigan University. Bozin is also a former performer from the Gaylord Youth Orchestra. Both Joanna and Jim perform with the Gaylord Chamber Orchestra.
Registration costs $25 for the week and covers all costs for the week including instrument, music and snacks. The participants will be able to take their instruments home with them each day to practice their new skills. Class size will be limited to 25 participants.
Registration and additional information may be found at
gaylordorchestra.org or by calling Denise Pallarito at 731-3307. The string camp is sponsored by the Gaylord Youth Orchestra, the Gaylord Chamber Orchestra and through a generous grant from the Otsego County Community Foundation.
