To the Editor:

    My name is Vicky Bandy, and I’d like to publicly thank Lasting Memories Bridal shop on West Main Street in Gaylord. They saved what was turning a nightmarish weekend, into a Godsend!

    I came to Michigan from Virginia for my sister’s wedding in Mancelona the weekend of June 7, but, thanks to the airlines, without my bridesmaid dress!

    Leaving Virginia on Thursday, with plenty of time before the wedding, I started my trip off with a canceled flight. I was placed on another airline to Michigan, but my luggage didn’t make it with me. Apparently, it was stuck in Cincinnati. (I guess a two-hour layover isn’t enough time to transfer one small bag?) After filing my lost baggage claim, I was assured that I’d have my bag by that night, but they were severely overestimating. After several phone calls and a lot of tears, the day of my sister’s wedding came, but my dress didn’t.

    The morning of the wedding we headed into Gaylord where we found Lasting Memories Bridal shop. Although they had several other customers, as soon as they heard our story, they went into “save the wedding day” mode! Never was there a question in their minds of “can we do this?” It was “let’s get this done!” Within minutes I had a dress of similar color to the one that was in my luggage, they even added a white sash to match the other dress!

    I was then rushed into alterations and away she went to transform this substitute dress from floor length to tea length, from two sizes too big to just my size, from plain navy blue to one with a beautiful sash. They found a dress and had it sized in 30 minutes, then to top it off, called to tell me that it was ready in less than two hours, and yes, I arrived at the church just 20 minutes before the ceremony started!

    After all frustration and the slamming of doors that I received from the airlines, Lasting Memories instilled faith in me that “yes, there are people who truly care.”
