Tammie Rich, Otsego County United Way executive director, proudly stands in front of the improved United Way Community Service Building following a busy work bee weekend.

OTSEGO COUNTY — More than 110 volunteers turned out to the United Way building for the two-day project that gave the building a face-lift — inside and out.

According to Tammie Rich, Otsego County United Way executive director, community members from the Gaylord High School hockey and football teams, Michigan State Police, Otsego County Sheriff’s Dept., Volunteer Center, RSVP, Treetops Resort, United Way volunteers/board members, Home Depot associates, Master Gardeners, Girl Scouts, 7-Eleven, Friendship Shelter, Zonta, Sesko Painting, Jones Construction, Frank Jasinski — Handyman and Child & Family Services, volunteered time to the project.

“We truly ‘Lived United’ within our community for this project,” Rich said. “The volunteers were amazing and every volunteer who helped out is priceless no matter how young or old they were or where they came from.”

In addition to the volunteers, the project sponsors included Pro-Source rental for use of a power lift and Sesko Enterprises for use of professional paint sprayers.

After running into problems with the paint sprayer Saturday, Rich contacted Sesko Enterprises for advice.

“We thought we weren’t going to be able to finish the job,” Rich said. “A phone call later, we had Randy, the owner of Sesko Enterprises who does interior and exterior painting.

“Without Randy’s help we would not have finished the job for quite some time. He really made it possible to complete our project on time.”

Food and water for the volunteers was provided by Big Bear Deli, Jet’s Pizza, BC Pizza and Save-A-Lot stores. “LIVE UNITED” T-shirts were supplied by Coldwell Banker/Schmidt Realtors.

Others who made the project possible included the Gaylord Herald Times, Weekly Choice, Eagle 101.5. TV 9&10 News Morning show, TV 7&4 News, Jan’s North Side Deli and 7-Eleven.
