Richard Rachow, age 60, of Johannesburg, died Tuesday, Aug.12, 2008 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. He was born March 5, 1948 in Mt. Clemens, the son of Martin and Helen (Schwark) Rachow. After graduating from Mt. Clemens high school, he served in the United States Coast Guard for 10 years. On Feb. 11, 1993 in Shelby Township, Richard married Vera M. Johnson, who survives.

Richard worked as a mailman for the Mt. Clemens post office for 32 years, retiring in 2000 and moving to Johannesburg. Richard also delivered newspapers for the Herald Times. He enjoyed hunting, riding snowmobiles, watching eagles, and loved his dogs.

In addition to his wife Vera, Richard is survived by two daughters, Valerie (Aaron) Kassuba and Rachel Grassi of Johannesburg; as well as a grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by both parents; and his sister, Shirley.



Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Sunday, Aug. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family through the Nelson Funeral Home, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.
