Name: John VanCoillie, 18
Family: Parents John and Deb VanCoillie
Future: VanCoillie will attend Lake Superior State University in the fall to study fire science. He’s been with the Albert Township Fire Dept. cadet program since he was 16.
“But I’ve grown up around the place,” said VanCoillie.
Since he was a young boy, John knew he wanted to be a firefighter. His father is Albert Township fire chief and the younger VanCoillie says when the scanner goes off, he beats his father out the door.
“I went to fires in the car seat,” he added.
“It’s fun for me — something that I really enjoy doing.”
When did you move to Lewiston? “I’ve lived here my whole life.”
What do you like about Lewiston? “Hunting, fishing, four-wheeling.”
What do you do for fun? “Hunting, fishing, skiing and outdoors.”
School information? VanCoillie is a 2008 graduate of Johannesburg-Lewiston High School.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? “That I’m a fourth-generation fire fighter.”
Who do you credit for making you who you are today? “My mom and dad.”
