Mrs. Charlotte Lucille Kotila, age 104, of Gaylord, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village in Gaylord.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L’Anse, the Rev. Augustin George will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in L’Anse.

Charlotte was born Dec. 1, 1903 in Manistique, the daughter of Donald & Delia (Donais) MacPhail. She grew up in Manistique and attended school there. She later earned her teaching degree from Central Michigan University and taught in the L’Anse Elementary School system for 26 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart parish and Altar Society in L’Anse and the Retired Teachers Organization. She enjoyed sewing, reading, word puzzles and letter writing.

On Aug. 13, 1931 in L’Anse, she married Francis Kotila.

Mrs. Kotila was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; two brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Jim) Daust of Gaylord; four grandchildren, Mary (Mark) McDaniel, Tim (Beth) Daust, Michael (Lisa) Daust and Kathleen Daust; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests contributions in memory of Charlotte be made to Sacred Heart Church in L’Anse or Hospice of Michigan through the Nelson Funeral Home, PO Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.
