GAYLORD �” Officials at Gaylord’s University Center and Lake Superior State University (LSSU) are currently working to bring the college on board as yet another of the center’s post-secondary partners to offer a variety of programs and classes in Gaylord.

LSSU spokesperson Tom Pink said the college has offered programs in the Petoskey area for many years and is now seeking to expand its presence by utilizing the facilities and central location offered by the University Center. Plans call for offering academic and research programs in math, science and technology in Gaylord.

“We anticipate moving forward with this. It’s a matter of working out the details,” Pink said of their future presence in Gaylord. “Specific course and program offerings will depend on the need but right now it looks like they will be built around math, science and technology.” Pink said the LSSU Petoskey location currently offers 12 bachelor’s degree programs in criminal justice, business and nursing.

The Gaylord programs will be designed to meet the specific needs of new college students, existing workforce and businesses and to help expand, attract and create economic opportunities in the region.

Pink said the LSSU board has approved offering programs in Gaylord and anticipates classes beginning next summer. He said further information and class schedules should be available later this year.

The University Center currently offers a number of programs through partnerships with Central Michigan University, North Central Michigan Community College, Davenport University, Eastern Michigan University, Madonna University, Spring Arbor University, Michigan State University and the Michigan Technology Education Center (M-Tec) through Kirtland Community College.
