LEWISTON -- The 10th annual Lewiston Health Fair, Oct. 25 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall in Lewiston offered flu shots, blood pressure checks, eye pressure checks, hearing exams and more.
Among those attending were Bev and Dick Cherwinski of Vanderbilt, hosting the Organ Transplant Support Group of Northern Michigan (OTSGNM) table and representing the Gift of Life Michigan.
Cherwinski told her experience as a single lung recipient.
Lois Phillips, of Lewiston, an organ donor family member and bone recipient, with husband Gerry Allen spoke to visitors on the need for organ and tissue donation and how simple it is to become an organ donor.
There are more than 100,299 people nationwide waiting for their second chance at life, reported Cherwinski. Only 10 percent of Michigan’s population are registered to be organ donors, she added.
Pizza was provided by the Lewiston Lodge, Taste of Lewiston and Mobile Service with salad provided by Iron Kettle and Lewiston Lodge.
