William P. Homiak, June 15, 1928 - Dec. 17, 2008, United States Army, Korean Conflict
 
Mr. William P. Homiak, age 80, of Gaylord, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at the Saline Evangelical Home.

Mr. Homiak was born in Detroit on June 15, 1928 and moved to Gaylord in the 1970’s. During the last months of his life he moved downstate to be closer to his family.

He was raised in Detroit and attended Chadsey High School where he made all state as a football player. He went on to attend Michigan State University and received a degree in journalism. He worked the majority of his life in the Detroit area.

Mr. Homiak also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He lived a very simple life and was thankful for the help from his Gaylord neighbors and friends. He was best known for all of his efforts in keeping US-27 free of trash for a number of years.
He enjoyed swimming and was a “huge reader” who enjoyed the classics. He was an avid walker and covered many miles in the county until a heart ailment curtailed his activities.

Mr. Homiak is survived by his brothers Peter T. (Eleanor) Homiak of Wyandotte and Robert Homiak (Susie Hart) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Larry Homiak of Lincoln Park, Kathleen Homiak of Ypsilanti, Barbara Jackson of Tucson, Ariz., David (Nancy) Homiak of Southgate and Jim (Beth) Homiak of Sterling Heights. Also surviving are many great-nieces and –nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Nellie (Sym) Homiak.

Memorial services to be held at a later date.
