GAYLORD -- The Herald Times’ annual “First Baby of the Year Contest” is just around the corner. Parents who are expecting near the beginning of 2009 may be eligible to win a bundle of prizes for their bundle of joy.

The winner receives dinner for mom and dad, sanitation service, pizza, moccasins, groceries, a one-year subscription to the Herald Times, car washes, haircut, tanning and Gaylord Chamber Certificheck from Otsego Memorial Hospital.

To be eligible, the baby must be born in Gaylord, Grayling or the Petoskey hospitals. The attending physician must certify the time of birth and the parents must be residents of Otsego, Montmorency or Crawford counties.

The first baby of 2008 was 7-pound, 14-ounce Liliana Skye Ryckman-Hall, daughter of Candace Ryckman and Morris Hall of Gaylord. Liliana was born Jan. 3, 2008 at 4:15 p.m. at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.
